I thought is was about time I did track 2 of my music memories and well what can I say track 2 is a great great song!
I can remember the exact time I first heard it.
Back in February 2002 I was staying in the Billabong Resort in Perth my dorm was the closest room to the reception area and I was nursing a pretty bad hangover and for some reason one of the reception staff (it might have been Ralph?) thought they would play a tune at full blast!![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
At the time I thought they were doing it just to wake some of us up but in hindsight they probably just wanted to blast out the tune as its so good. After all you have to listen to music at a good volume to really appreciate it.
So anyway I awoke to this gravelly husky voice, an instantly catchy chorus and a great hook that became a hit all over the world. The song was so popular it was being played in clubs that wouldn’t even consider playing such a track normally!!
Yes Nickelback had made it big time!
How You Remind Me was the most played record on US airwaves during the whole of the noughties. It topped the billboard chart in the USA and made #4 in the UK. It was also voted the best single of 2002 and was only one of around 3 rock singles to even top the billboard 100 during the whole decade!
Yes its probably been a bit overplayed but its still a great track and I still love it.
I played it a lot in Australia and a German friend I was travelling with at the time didnt like the track, he was still learning English at the time and one evening he got really drunk and suddenly understood the words ‘I’ve been down to the bottom of every bottle’. I think from then on he’s loved the song too.
So here is track 2 of my Music Memories
